Ethnography: Dance

Given this ethnography assignment, I knew right away what community I was currently apart of and wanted to share with everyone. Dance is a huge part of my life and I’m a member of a company that has an online community.

Being apart of Dance Stellar Productions for two years has been nothing but a great experience. Having Facebook as our online community for our company is a very useful way for all the members to communicate, when were not together. We use our community to talk about practices, showcase information, costume details etc.

Social Media Taking Over

Everywhere we go we see people constantly on their phones, weather they’re emailing someone, talking on the phone, on a social media site etc. Either way they are getting in contact with someone else.  Social media had taken over out world of communication.

            Social media is how people communicate these days. We use media to talk to others or share our point of views on different matters in the world. Some people see media as positive or negative things. Generation X don’t like how media has taken over communication because they are so used to the actually waiting to hear from people through email and emailing through computer.  Generation Y was born into the world of media and communication through social media.

            Social Media is great for business work, because we have the ability to talk to people around the world and communication to them. Also, social media is free and that is great because in the past you had to pick up the phone and dial across oceans.

Child Online Privacy

Online privacy isn't around anymore. Children aren't aware of who is on the internet waiting for them to be an easy target. Social media is where children spend the majority of their time these days. Children don't hangout at the zoo's, amusement parks etc. Pedophiles are where children are and that is online, whether its on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, gaming site etc. “ It is believed that more than half a million pedophiles are online every day” (Wings). Half a million pedophiles are waiting for children every day, so as parents we need to educate them with what is out on the web and who is out there. 

As parents we need to be aware of what our child may be up to with social media.  We all want to think our children are perfect, but in reality no one is perfect and they could be doing things that could be harming their life. For example children do make Facebooks that they can be "friends" with their parents on, but then have another account for their real "friends". In this case the second profile their parents don't know about and could be "friends" with people they don't know (pedophiles). Their child could be chatting with who they think is their friend on Facebook, but really isn't. This is how children get caught up in bad situations. For more information about child pedophiles.

Social Media and Social Activism

Social Activism and political actions is a topic that I was never really interested in. I don't follow any political information myself, when I probably should. I know I would learn a lot about what is going on in the world I live in, but it's a topic that doesn't really interest me .

I know a lot of people who are all about expressing their thoughts about certain political issues that are going on in the world through social media. Facebook is one location I see a lot of information being shared about issues and sometimes can cause arguments if others disagree with their views on a certain issues.

By sharing your thoughts about an issue can also lead to other views on an issue that you may not have thought of. By being able to share you thoughts with other's is a great idea and it's a way to get information out to others.

Online Communities/ Social Media

Online communities is a way for people grow relationships with others and bring them closer, while collaborating towards a common goal.  Social media is huge in this day and age. Social media is a way humans communicate with others for personal or professional reasons. This could be by direct or indirect communication. Humans are born to communicate and engage with others.

Business side of online communities can help reach out to new or old customer and build new or old relationships.

GOOGLE!

Google is a very powerful search engine that many people use on a daily basis. Whether to find out information about a certain product, find a location to our destination, check spelling and the list can keep going. If we sit down and think about how Google works and how it keeps track of everything we type in, it can be discouraging. It's very personal to the point where you can start seeing ads pop up on other sites, such as Facebook of products you have been goggling. Some may say this is great and it's very customer service based, while others say this could be invading personal space.

I can see Google expanding even more and taking over other benefits, when technology gets more complex. I personally like Google and use it all the time as my search engine. There are many search engines out there and we have the capability to use whatever search engine we want, so if you don't like the way Google runs, use another search engine. Us humans have complete control of what happens on the web, it just depends on what you search.

Blog Prompt #2. Convergence

When we look at the world today we see how everything is converging onto one device, such as our  phones or some sort of electronics. We can watch t.v, movies, call and text people, receive and send emails, listen to music, find out news and the list can keep on going on about how we can do multiple things on one electronic device. Within the next few years who knows where the media will go, but I think someday in the future electronics (phones) maybe the only way to get news etc. This leads consumers into purchasing whatever they need to get the information they are looking to consume.
